    I have mitigated the problem with cutting the thin end by using a hold down stick on top of the wedge stock that gets an eighth inch cut, kind like a zero clearance. Not perfect but way better. I’ve never cut more than 16 seg rings 2” diameter though, small enough!

    Nice piece Tom. Always good to see some content from you, even if it is few and far between. AND. . . the audio was fine. Maybe that's because I worked in a shop for over 30 years and I know how to listen with these 70+ year old ears; parsing out conversations from the background noise. 😃

    In watching your UA-cam video, I seemed to notice that you cut all your board widths the same. Am I seeing that correctly? To me, it makes sense to do so. While it may not be efficient, it does seem to be effective.

    • @TomLohman
      @TomLohman 6 місяців тому

      Depending on the project I will do one width or two if the diameter changes quickly. This method is very efficient I do not have to cut different width, and can bundle the strips together. It is efficient but uses more wood than needed.

    Hey Tom. I'm a big fan of your work and I've made a few pieces modeled from your pieces. I've bought your 144 index wheel and couldn't be more happy. I see in this video your gluing every segmented piece to the previous one. In your newer videos I see you glue every 4th piece and come back to fill in the gaps with 3 pieces. Did you run into trouble trying to use the method in this video?

    • @TomLohman

      @@TomLohman It's certainly an amazing patience. I like the idea of making these vases. Yesterday I made my first vase out of 384 segments, and I loved it. But there is no precision at all. The segments between the rings do not fit together. Maybe I will make a similar gluing device too. I think your work should pay off handsomely. How are the sales of the finished products? In general, do they buy them? Or are they made for yourself?

    If you changed for a screw clamp to a lever clamp, you could probably save half a second each clamp application. After a quick calculation, that'd save you about 1.5 hours total holy crap how are you able to do projects like these? :D

    • @TomLohman
      @TomLohman Рік тому

      This was the first and maybe the only time I’ve done this clamping, could only do it for 41 rows, the feature ring because was close to a cylinder. I have lever clamps but they just don’t have the same pressure.
